Fresh Look at The Nokia Lumia

Nokia Windows Phone devices — Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 have finally been announced in India and will be available in a couple of weeks — around mid-December to be precise.

With the launch, Nokia has announced the beginning of a new ecosystem. Now Nokia will no longer focus its strengths on Symbianonly but on Windows as well. With the new Microsoft's Mobile operating system (Windows Phone) based devices Nokia has impressed millions of users across the globe and we hope many such products will keep coming as a result of the collaboration.

Nokia Lumia 800

Lumia 800 is Nokia's first Windows Phone based device and we managed to lay our hands on it at a press event where Nokia also revealed the smaller Lumia 710. The device is expected to be priced at Rs 29,000 and will be available for purchase from mid-December.

Nokia Lumia had been kept under wraps for a quite a long time. The phone both looks and feels great.

Lumia 800 comes with Nokia's very own clear black 3.7 inch display which looks impressive with native resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The most amazing characteristic of this device is its 252 ppi pixel density which makes visuals crisp, and there is hardly any visible pixilation. In comparison to the Samsung Omnia W, the display holds similar characteristics except that it lacks Corning's Gorilla glass. It reproduces bright and vibrant visuals that only the Nokia 700 shares because it uses the same display technology.

Nokia's new phone is 12.1 mm thick and weighs 142 grams. Though it is great to hold, its closest competitor Omnia W is lighter and slimmer. Lumia is available in cyan, black and fascia colours, which make the phone look classy and fresh.

Lumia 800 features a 1.4 GHz application processor to power Windows Phone Mango 7.5, coupled with 512 MB of RAM to keep things speedy and fluid. The device uses the native Windows user interface with live tiles, and works smoothly.

Nokia Lumia 800 has an 8 megapixel snapper encrusted with Carl Zeiss optics with a dual LED flash capable of recording 720p HD videos. In terms of hardware the smartphone is almost identical to the Samsung Omnia W but has internal storage capacity of up to 16 GB as compared to 8 GB on the Omnia W.

Lumia 800 has been made with a lot of emphasis on its looks and looks somewhat identical to the Nokia N9. But overall, the device is good but a bit overpriced. Samsung Omnia W comes for nearly Rs 20,000 while the Lumia 800 costs Rs 29,000 though the two have almost identical specifications.

Nokia, during the event, detailed quite a few features about this device but more information on that after the final review so stay tuned.

Verizon HTC ThunderBolts's

Verizon has announced the availability of its first 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) smart phone, the ThunderBolt, made by HTC. Verizon is the only major carrier to roll out LTE 4G wireless services in the U.S. so far. The company has more than 40 major markets covered now, and more on the way.

True, MetroPCS offers LTE in its coverage areas. Sprint and Clearwire offer 4G WiMAX service in the U.S. as well. Up to now, Verizon didn’t offer an LTE cell phone. 4G service was via a laptop data card or dongle. The ThunderBolt, though, lets customers access the LTE network with a handset.
The ThunderBolt is somewhat similar to the HTC EVO 4G WiMAX model used by Sprint/Clearwire (see the figure). It has a larger 4.3-in. WVGA screen and offers two cameras, an 8-Mpixel rear camera with video record capability, and a 1.3-Mpixel front-facing camera. Also, it boasts 8 Gbytes of on-board memory and a pre-installed 32-Gbyte microSD card. The processor is Qualcomm’s 1-GHz Snapdragon, and the operating system (OS) is Android 2.2. Support software and services include Google Mobile Services such as Gmail, YouTube, and Android Market.

Toshiba say's its upcoming Android tablet is 'superior' to the iPad 2!

Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave rivals a verbal bashing at the iPad 2 launch earlier this month, but now they're starting to hit back. Toshiba has put its head above the parapet, with one of its Australian execs promising that its upcoming Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet will be superior to the new iPad.
Here's the exact quote from Toshiba's Rob Wilkinson on Aussie site Smarthouse: "We are confident that we can match Apple pricing for their new iPad 2 while delivering a device that is richer in features," he says. "We believe that our device is superior to the Apple device, it may be a little heavier (773g) but it does have a lot of features that the iPad 2 does not have."
That's fighting talk! Toshiba is currently showing its tablet off to retailers in the land Down Under, so what features does it have that will leap over the iPad 2's specs? We know a few from the prototype model shown off at CES earlier this year.
The as yet unnamed tablet will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb, with a 10.1-inch display and a resolution of 1,280x800 pixels -- that's a bit bigger and higher than the iPad 2 respectively.
Tosh's tablet will pack a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, whose performance we haven't been able to compare directly against the iPad 2's A5.
It will also have a built-in HDMI output, a 2-megapixel front camera and a 5-megapixel rear camera. The cams are certainly higher resolution than what Apple is offering on its second-generation tablet, for which users will have to pay extra for an HDMI output accessory too.
